George Orwell once remarked that he had a huge ego and it was indeed that huge ego that compelled him write. Orwell felt that by writing he was not only massaging his ego but he was also able to demand the attention that he craved. Orwell needed to be noticed and he could achieve this by being different, his theory was that if you moved with the crowd you just became swallowed up but if you were totally self-centred then that somehow set you apart from the others.
