Advantages: Well, they got me through my 1st year exams!

Disadvantages: Not a study aid

Having just completed my first year as a medical student at Imperial College, the fact that I passed my first year exams is largely down to that godsend known as the Mosby's Crash Course series.

Mosby's books integrate the basic facts, presented in an easily accessible format with lots of relevant information. They even provide mneumonics (spelling?!) to help you remember some topics.

The other great thing about Mosby's Crash Course books is that they are quite short, so they can easily be read the night before an exam (who said last minute revision was useless.......?!) They are also relatively cheap - £16 as opposed to the average price of medical textbooks, being about £30.

The main drawback of Mosby's books, however, is that they are almost solely a revision aid. I found that generally they were of little use as an aid to study throughout the year, but that when it came to exams, they were the most useful textbooks that I owned!

I liked the Cardiovascular one and the Renal and Urinary Systems books in particular.
