In case the name is not familiar to you, Trevor Baylis is the bloke that invented the clockwork radio. He was vegging out in front of the goggle box in September 1991 when he saw a documentary about the spread of AIDS in Africa. Spreading vital information was proving difficult because there are large areas without an electricity supply and where batteries are horribly expensive.
