Coast - Matthew Branton ... find a way... With parents who are hash-heads, still on an E-spree ten years after they should've calmed down, Bay and his buddies feel obliged to be squeaky-clean teens. Between the gym and the juicebar they do a pretty good job, even after someone's science-geek kid brother synthesises Crystal Meth in his bedroom: the sex is just to make the drugs work, right? sure it is.

Branton's writing style is compelling and witty. Parts made me laugh out loud; parts made me nod my head and think 'yeah, exactly right!'. It took me ages to choose this book. I wanted something cool and snappy, with a hint of Irving Welsh's narrative style, something interesting and now, and that's what I got. His dad could be me (if I was older and a bloke), what I mean is that I can relate well to Bay, to his slightly too cock-sure and seemingly mature for their age friends, Alita and Tay and especially to his awkward dad stuck in a bizarre clubbers time-warp. When you was a child and got in trouble, it was always your parents that bailed you out right? they were always there ready to stand up for you because you're their child, but what if you got in deep trouble and knew there were some big-time criminals out on the hunt for you, what if you realised those big-time criminals were your parents, I know its a different opening, but this is the kind of question that this book has brought up. Bay is your average kid, he goes to college, he spends a lot of his spare time with his friends JoJo, Asia, Alita, Talya and Euan, going to the local Gym, working out, drinking health drinks then back to Talya's place for ...
