Advantages: Great characters, brilliant storyline
Disadvantages: None
I got this book after loving all of Sophie Kinsella's books and finding out that Madeline Wickham is the same person! Brilliant I thought now another whole set of books I can read and hopefully enjoy. Well I wasn't disappointed, Cocktails For Three is a fantastic read.
This book as the name suggests is about 3 friends who live very different lives all working in the magazine industry. Every month they meet in a cocktail bar to catch up on all the gossip whilst enjoying their favourite cocktails. The 3 women are very different characters and each has a very individual prsonality. Maggie is the first of the 3, she is pregnant and so the meeting at the beginning of the book is her last before she goes on maternity leave. She is struggling to cope with all the spare time she has until the baby arrives, then things just get worse for her. Roxanne is very secretive character. She is in a relationship with a married man and won't tell her friends who he is as she secretly thinks he will leave his wife and marry her. She goes through many twists and turns throughout the book, can she cope with what is thrown her way? Candice is the most caring and honest of the 3. She thinks of everyone else first putting her own life on hold to help others. When someone she recognises at the cocktail bar shows up she is horrified of the memories that resurface. Will she think of herself for a change or keep helping everyone else?
All 3 characters are very believable and so different you really can't tell what is going to happen from one chapter to the next. Each has a great storyline which all link together very well. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a more sophisticated 'chic lit' read. A brilliant read and can't wait to get hold of more Madeline Wickham novels.
Summary: 10/10
