I think it's very important to encourage children to use dictionaries as soon as they are able and a very good one will really encourage a love of and curiosity about words! Our main dictionary at home is a huge Oxford one that would be of no use at all for small children so recently I have been on the look out for a very good one to start using with my daughter. The Collins Junior Dictionary seems excellent and is aimed at children from the age of six upwards. It has a bright appealing cover which makes you want to open it up and look inside!
