Skywatching (Collins Skywatching - David Levy)

Advantages: covers everything in plain english Disadvantages: nothing comes to mind, sorry
Skywatching is an excellent introduction in to the science of astronomy, the book starts by explaining the origins of this fascinating subject and leads on through different chapters, the stars, galaxies etc. The book offers techniques for watching the sky from beginner to advanced, so there is something for everyone. There are chapters that help you to understand how the sky changes as we spin through space and what kind of motion you can expect to see depending on where you live. The star maps are excellent covering the entire year form anywhere on the planet and the constellation finder is superb naming every known one, with its Latin name, its meaning and a phonetic version, each one also has a key to show its size, brightness, location in the sky and a rating from 1 to 5 depending on how easy it is to see and make out.
