The early days for Marcus were anything but depressing, a carefree youngster who grew up around village cricket and moved up the grades through his local county club and then young England with the likes of Andrew Flintoff and Paul Collingwood. As a big hitting batsman he was a similar size, more chins than a Chinese phone book in his teens. But it wasn't a Freddie addiction to beer but fizzy ...more

Premium Review Coming Back to Me: The Autobiography of Marcus Trescothick - Marcus Trescothick: I See a Bad Moon Rising... (1156 words)

Rating:

All men live a quiet life of desperation, recession of course a breeding ground for that apathy, something women never really understand, expecting them to always be their rock as they grizzle away on their shoulders for the slightest little thing. When men can't deal with the modern pressures of life, often due to women, and mortgages and kids, women all too often walk away from men, their most intrinsic selfish trait by far. We are indifferent to that state of affairs as that's the only way it will ever be, but if we show weakness then the stigma is forever there, depression often the curse of the free thinker who contemplates too much, or the hunter gatherer who can ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review MARCUS TRESCOTHICK - COMING BACK TO ME (373 words)
by - written on 11/09/09 (Very useful, 12 readings)
Rating:

COMING BACK TO ME is the autobiography of England cricket player Marcus Trescothick. Trescothick who also plays for Somerset has been one of England's best opening batsmen in both test and international cricket. The book contains lots of chapters with well over 400 pages about his career in cricket. However the most fascinating feature of the book is Trescothick's openess about his stress related illness which led him to stop playing internationally. Trescothick admits how depressed he got and even got so low that he contemplated taking his own life. He admits that touring can be very tedious as endless hours are spent doing nothing while he was away ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Coming Back to Me: The Autobiography of Marcus Trescothick - Marcus Trescothick: Not your average sports biography (171 words)
by - written on 03/08/09 (Useful, 13 readings)
Rating:

Regular watchers of cricket at the County Ground in Northampton will remember that Marcus Trescothick once scored 284 there in 2007. Followers of the sport will also be aware, though, that such highlights for Trescothick on the field were always offset by his depression away from it. The story, of 'engulfing black periods' set against the backdrop of huge sporting success - Trescothick won the Ashes with England in 2005 - is told to ghost writer Peter Hayter, who as a confidant of the player during his darkest times, is perfectly placed to chronicle his depression. The book, which won last year's coveted William Hill Sports Book of the ...  Read the complete review
