Advantages: HONESTY
Disadvantages: A BIT GRIM
COMING BACK TO ME is the autobiography of England cricket player Marcus Trescothick.
Trescothick who also plays for Somerset has been one of England's best opening batsmen in both test and international cricket.
The book contains lots of chapters with well over 400 pages about his career in cricket.
However the most fascinating feature of the book is Trescothick's openess about his stress related illness which led him to stop playing internationally. Trescothick admits how depressed he got and even got so low that he contemplated taking his own life. He admits that touring can be very tedious as endless hours are spent doing nothing while he was away from his family for many months. This is a fascinating insight in to the other side of being a sportsman. Trescothick can be very gloomy over his life though it is refreshing to read such honesty.
There is lots of positivity in the book as well. Trescothick talks in detail about the 2005 Ashes win and the celebrations afterwards. He explains how honoured he was to represent his country in such an important victory and the pride of receiving an MBE for his efforts. I always like sports autobiographies for the tales in them and although there aren't many in this section at least it gives some detail in to the win.
Trescothick talks abut the favourite players he's played with and who inspired him to be a cricketer. He then discusses his life now as he is setled playing for his county Somerset away from the stress of anything else.
This is a sports autobiography that can be very dark and depressing considering we are talking about a player who was one of the best in the game. Don't purchase this if you are looking to read funny anecdotes, though do buy this if you're looking to read a brutally honest account of the harsh realities sport can have on your health.
An easy read with Trescothick coming across as a gentleman who is letting all his emotions out on to the paper. The book contains many photos of Trescothick's cricket career.
Avaliable from AMAZON at £4.65, this is a sensitive read though good.
