Rating:
'Coming Home' is the kind of book that doesn't fit easily into a genre. It's perhaps primarily a coming-of-age book, but at the same time it's a historical novel set initially in the prelude to World War II, and it's also something of a family saga. It's the third of Rosamunde Pilcher's long novels (over 1000 pages in paperback) and unique amongst them in that it focuses on a young girl rather than an elderly lady and is based in the 1930s and 1940s. The novel opens with Judith, an independent and sensible girl in her teens, preparing to go to boarding school as her mother and little sister Jess depart to live with her father in Singapore. Rating:
Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher is another of her storming successes. In all of her books, Rosamunde Pilcher writes with an extraordinary warmth and insight into the lives of families. In Coming Home, Rosamunde Pilcher creates characters that you really care for and a story that is always interesting, often moving and sometimes funny. I am always sorry to get to the end of a Rosamunde Pilcher books because the warmth of her writing is emitted from the pages as you read and her books are real 'feel good' books. ... Rating:
Another excellent book by Rosamunde Pilcher. It follows the live of one particular girl from her childhood through to adulthood. It encompasses different lifestyles from the poor to the wealthy, the war and, of course, human emotions; love, hate, envy. As with all her books, I feel that I really know these people, she is an extraordinary author. One word of warning, the TV adaptation of Coming Home was not a patch on the book, so please don't be put off if you've seen it on TV. ... Read the complete review

As achild I always read a lot of books. And as I grew up I always feared that I would never find another book that would capture my heart and imagination as much as when I was young. My mum bought to my attention the book Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher. I knew it would be a fantastic book only after reading the first few pages. I was already attached to the main character to the point that I almost put the book down as I knew that at some point soon the character was going to get hurt and I didnt want that to happen. But I carried on reading and reading and reading and reading until I was reaching the final chapters at which point I tried to slow my reading time ... Read the complete review
