The final page is much like the first one in that it has a longer rhyme concluding the book, with a view through a porthole with all the creatures waving at you! The rhyme for each creature is usually 4 or 5 sentences long so they are all quite brief, but to the point and are worded in a way which is easy to read and appealing to a young child. For ex...more

Crowned Review Commotion in the Ocean - Giles Andreae: There's a Curious Commotion (878 words)

We've had this book for over two years now (I bought it for my eldest daughter when she was only a few months old). The bright colours and rhyming text appealed to me so I thought they would appeal to her...and of course they did. It has definitely been one of her favourites in her collection since that time, and we read it together only this morning so it is obviously still going strong (if a little dog-eared). Commotion in the Ocean is written by Giles Andreae (also known as Purple Ronnie) and illustrated by David Wojtowycz who have paired up and produced 3 other books together (3 that I know of anyway). The version I have is A4 size and in ...  Read the complete review

Commotion in the Ocean This is a sequel to The Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae. It is illustrated by David Wojtowycz. It contains a set of poems about different sea creatures and it contains 32 pages. It is published by Orchard books. This author is perhaps best known for the 'Purple Ronnie' greeting cards and this book is in the same vein, with lots of rhyme and fun. It is a paperback book of good quality and the front cover is very colourful with an octopus and a shark on the front. The poems are entitled: Commotion in the Ocean - which gives a summary about what sort of creatures you will find in the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Commotion in the Ocean - Giles Andreae: Lovely poems, and pictures (149 words)
by - written on 02/07/08 (Useful, 102 readings)

Another stunning one from this pair of author / illustrator. The commotion in the ocean is a series of small four line poems about various animals in the ocean. Language is excellently used, with plenty of rhyming which is super important for early readers and preschoolers. Each animal has a whole page devoted to it and it's poem, with lovely illustrations, and each poem highlights particualr features of the animals concerned. The blue whale poem highlights their enormous size, while the octopus talks about all it's legs. The poems are light and funny, and kids are interested and learning at the same time. My kids 2 and 4 have both loved this book, especially if you can ...  Read the complete review
