Sid James is a huge idol of mine. He was a comic genius, a childhood hero I have loved for as long as I remember. I was brought up watching the wonderful Carry On films in the 1970s and now own each of them pre-recorded. I have recently watched and taped many episodes of Bless This House, which are shown on Granada Plus. Sid James’ multi-creased face, his dirty chuckle, his expressive mouth – all are guaranteed to cheer me up, to make me smile. He died in 1976, the year I turned seven.
