Advantages: Independent views, great destinations, handy tips

Disadvantages: Some of the holiday prices can leave you feeling seriously inadequate!

Conde Nast Traveller magazine is certainly not aimed at the backpack or bucket and spade end of the holiday market. With featured holiday prices regularly hitting well into four figure sums, if you want to be taking some of these holidays, you're going to have to either be on very good terms with your bank manager or have won the lottery last week. Even the "budget" holiday section rarely features holidays below £500...

That said, it is a great magazine. Although you may not be able to afford to go to the featured hotel or resort, chances are there is something within your price range near buy.

Also the fact that unlike most travel magazines, CN Traveller has a "no freebies" policy, means that you do get a very honest opinion. If they like, they tell- if not then they'll tell you that as well.

Regular features on how to get the cheapest hotel rate or flight seasons also make it worth the £2.90 cover price.

In summary, despite its very upmarket features, CN Traveller does have something for the ordinary traveller who likes to organise their own break without the help of a package tour operator.

It's nice to dream though isn't it.
