Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella....
Rebecca Bloomwood is a girl who wants it all, great job, lots of money and above all, as many clothes as she can possibly lay her hands on!
Working as a writer for a financial magazine on first looks it appears Rebecca Bloomwood is a high flier but really she is just trying to blag her way through a career she feels she knows nothing about. As Rebecca finds herself spending hours daydreaming about what clothes to buy, what clothes to wear and what clothes are made by which designer her ever increasing debt continues.
Countless phones calls and letters from her bank manager are avoided and ignored but that niggling feeling just wont leave her. On some advice from her flat mate, Rebecca decides she needs to "Cut Back" and after splurging on items needed for her more self sufficient lifestyle she quickly realises that she is really not a "Cut Back" type girl.
Her final decision regarding her money comes about after being humiliated in her favourite store when after a huge splurge in the store her store card gets rejected along with her visa and debit card at the till. She then decides to take the other bit of advice her flat mate gave her which was "Make More Money" and in an effort to do this she embarks on a few dodgy jobs that really don't make her any more money.
Along this journey of disaster there is one face that Rebecca keeps seeing and that belongs to Luke Brandon of Brandon Communications, a successful PR company for financial businesses. Luke has a strange effect on Rebecca and she really doesn't know where she stands when she is around him although from there first meeting you are truly aware of the chemistry that is between them.
Rebecca feels totally down on her luck and decides she needs some respite at her parents house and a few days away from the rate race. Whilst saying here she uncovers something that will perhaps sort out all of her problems, financially and romantically....
This is the first book in the Shopaholic series and I have previously read the others but unfortunately read them all out of sync. However this really made no difference to the brilliant chick lit that is this book. It seems to have it all and it was a book which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It is easy to read and pick up where you left off along with it being purely light-hearted and something most girly girls would love.
Sophie Kinsella has made the main character, Rebecca Bloomwood, so utterly lovable it is untrue. I think one of the main reasons I feel this way is because she really is a little bit of me. I have to confess to being a bit of a Shopaholic myself and I am sure most of the female population would agree with me but there is nothing better than buying something new!
Rebecca's character is able to literally make me laugh out loud, by the things she does and the thinks she thinks. The book as a whole is brilliant and as a series it is even better. I would urge anyone who has read this book and enjoyed it to read all the others in the series. They may be simple and easy to follow but they are so cheerful and unlike all the other books I have been reading lately that are all depressing and very heavy to go to sleep on.
This is definitely a FIVE STAR BOOK and from me it gets top marks and an EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH RECOMMENDATION
I hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
Summary: a great read thatit light and cheerful
