Advantages: Amazing storyline! Great characters.
Disadvantages: None!
I read this book before having seen the film, and I'm very glad, as I believe books are always better and less artificial than a movie.
So the book's main character is Rebecca Bloomwood, a financial journalist who hates her job; finding it boring and dull. She would rather spend her time spending copious amount of money on various designer items. Such as a Denny and George scarf and many a dress from Hobbs.
Becky lives, with her best friend Suze, who is extremely rich, which doesn't help Becky in her quest to curb her spending. Although Becky is a financial journalist, she doesn't really know much about it, or care that much about it!
Added to this, Becky is in a large amount of debt, through her non-stop splurging. Her bank manager Derek Smeath, is always trying to arrange meetings, to which she continually finds excuses in order to avoid the appointments.
The book follows Becky as she tries to rid herself of debt, has an unfortunate incident with a very rich bachelor, and manages to make people she is being stalked by her bank manager! And ultimately, falling in love.
Sophie Kinsella writes in an amusing, witty style. Which had me giggling the whole way through. It is very laidback, which makes it an easy read and very effective. Everyone needs to read thus book!
Summary: Kinsella writes with great style, flowing and good ideas.
