Confessions of a Shopaholic - Sophie Kinsella
I need to begin by explaining that I am an avid reader. I read really quickly and my favourite kind of books are crime fiction, Phillip Pullman, autobigraphies and Terry Pratchett among others. I don't buy chick lit usually but will pretty much read anything so if I am given it, and will give it a shot as soon as I run out of other things to read. That is how I came to read Confessions of a Shopaholic which I believe has also been released on film. Since buying it, I have actually looked for others in the series, so watch this space for further reviews!
This novel introduces us to Becky Bloomwood. Becky hasn't met "Mr Right", is working in a job she hates and isn't particularly good at and has an addiction to shopping. This may not sound particularly original or entertaining but in actual fact, it is well written and surprised me by making me laugh.
I won't explain what happens so as not to spoil it for those who haven't read it but the book manages to contain some highs and lows and some very funny situations. Suffice to say, it is a light and amusing read which ends on a cheerful note. If you enjoy reading chick lit style books then this is sure to delight you. I am looking forward to reading more of the Shopaholic series!
I definitely recommend that you give this book a go, the characters are likable and the plot easy to follow and fun. Look out for the letters to the bank manager etc!
Summary: Worth a read
