Michael Connelly is one of my favourite authors and someone whose books have given me a great deal of pleasure over the years. He specialises in crime writing and his books ae fast paced with good character development and his plots have a number of twists and turns that help keep the reader engrossed.

What I really like about Connelly is the consistency of his work, some authors seem to lose steam over time, almost as if they are writing to a pre set script, this seems to happen most often when they have a series of books with one central character, as if they have set the bar too high in early work and can never get back to the same level.

Oftenthis manifests itself in the use of co-writers for the research or even actual plot cotributions. Connelly has avoided this and many of his books feature the LA detective Hieronymus (Harry) Bosch with the first book in the series called The Black Echo based on a real crime. Prior to this new career Connelly had been a crime reporter in Los Angeles and it was this experience that helped make him the writer he is today.

He has done a number of books with Bosch in them and also some one off thrillers, Blood Work is an excellent book which was adapted to film and starred and was directed by Clint Eastwood. In all he has written 19 novels with the majority featuring Bosch and his consistently high standards are the reason I'm so keen on his work.
