John LeCarre, for me, is gaining reputation all the time. The more I read his work, the more impressed with his style and originality of his work, and the more I want to see. This is why I so highly anticipated the arrival of this book - a purchase I had intended to make for some time, and was well over-due!

John LeCarre has created another reserved, respectable British civil servant who turns his life around after a tragedy. In Nairobi, career diplomat Justin Quayle has just learned that his very political wife, Tessa, was brutally murdered at nearby Lake Turkana. Much younger and more actively involved than Justin, Tessa was with Belgian-African Doctor Arnold Bluhm but he was not found and is the chief suspect. Not usually involved in his wife’s investigations, Justin searches her notes, records, and computer disks and finds a link to a TB drug whose testing has resulted in numerous unreported deaths in Kenya. He follows the trail despite enduring physical violence, betrayal by old friends and even death threats. He travels to Germany, Canada and finally back to the scene of the crime where his actions may save hundreds of lives.

I found this to be a very good book. Its certainly not the best I have read, and its far from the worst, but represents a good few hours read that has some return appeal over a period of time, and certain people might just love it. Money well spent in my opinion...
