Advantages: Very simple but highly enjoyable and a delight to read

Disadvantages: The rhyme can get a little annoying but thats part of the fun !!

Cows In The Kitchen is a simple tale that follows the adventures of a group of farmyard animals through the course of a simple rhyme. On each page there is a different picture portraying the antics of one of the animals along with the amusing and highly interactive text that accompanies it. We got this for christmas for our young daughter and though she is not quite into books yet, though she does enjoy picking them up and looking at the pictures for a few moments before getting bored, this is swiftly becoming a favourite for the silly noises daddy makes as he reads along.

My poor wife has been forced to ration the amount of times daddy reads this because he enjoys it so much and loves getting totally into the story. It begins with "cows in the kitchen go moo moo moo.....thats what they do Tom Farmer" then progresses through to sheep, ducks and pigs all doing their own thang. The book takes a highly amusing turn when the farmer falls asleep but don't worry, I won't spoil how it ends....

As with all the greatest kids books, the story is a simple but enchanting one and very clever in it's execution. And that is why it works...the pictures are delightful and this is an excellent book for parents to read alongside their children as the two can read it together thus promoting parent-child interaction. It is also fun ifd one parent wants to annoy the other and wind them up as I have discovered- and the good thing is, the simple rhyme is one that is easily learnt and soon ingrains itself in your head so that it is easy to recall. I have read this a few times now to my daughter and now know it off by heart. It is about sixteen pages long, of a hard cardboard material so quite durable and very brightly coloured. It retails at £4.99 and is worth every single penny!

It is a book that daddy at least is going to cherish for many years to come and is a real joy to read ....

Summary: A simple adventure of a group of misbehaving farm animals that is a real winner in our house

It's interesting to see June Crebbin is still writing rhymes - I met her nearly 20 years ago, and still have a copy of her first book, The Jungle Sale.
