count_zero The Tin Roof Blowdown - James Lee Burke: ... Tin Roof Blowdown - James Lee Burke I never had any intention of reviewing another James Lee Burke / Detective Robicheaux novel. He is a writer I have long admired and I continue to draw much enjoyment from all the Robicheaux books, but in all honesty they are not hugely different from each other and having articulated the reasons I d enjoyed one I would have been largely repeating myself to review any others. H...

pmcds Life Support - Tess Gerritsen
... read this book a while ago, having never heard of Tess Gerritsen, and not even really being a fan of the genre she writes in. I suppose you could file it under medical crime thriller, if you wanted, and while crime and thriller regularly appear in my list of favourite books, I have never ventured into the medical side of reading. Gerritsen is a doctor herself, and so I was expecting a book full of jargon and whole sections that would go completely above my head. However, what she presents us with is very much a medical crime thriller for the layman, with no overwhelmingly long and descriptive medical passages. Life Support essentially deals with an illegal experiment i...

MeganFF The First Apostle - James Becker
... M waxed lyrical about this book, and practically forced me into a chair to read it. Religious themes are generally not my kind of thing, as I m yet to find one that makes any sense to me. But his persistence paid off. I picked the book up, and began reading. When Jackie Hampton hears a noise in the night while alone in the Italian villa as it s being refurbished, she gets up to investigate and winds up dead. Mark Hampton calls his friend Chris Bronson for moral support for the journey from London to Rome, and all that comes after. But when Chris, being an active police detective, reads the report into Jackie s accident , things start to spiral out of all control. A ...

festactown A Killing Frost - R.D. Wingfield
... Killing Frost is the latest book by R. D Wingfield, published in October 2008 it reunites us with the Detective Inspector Jack Frost, a sardonic, chain-smoking, rough diamond whose blatant insubordination and ends justify the means approach, make him a force to be reckoned with inside and outside the station. The central story concerns two young teenagers who have gone missing and are feared to be murdered. Frost has to piece together the truth behind their disappearance, whilst being bombarded with cases of paedophile rings, blackmail and extortion at a local supermarket, a missing nurse, a body on a railway line and arson. The first couple of chapters leave the re...
