Advantages: Jordan Still A Good Writer
Disadvantages: Boring In Sections, Same Old Same Old
Wow, these books go on forever! Well here we are then, book number ten of the series, Crossroads of twilight. This book is from the massive hit fantasy series The Wheel of time by American author Robert Jordan. This series is epic in truely every sense, and it shows in the fact that we are now ten books in and still have a bit further to go!
This book was released in January 2003. This was another best seller for Jordan in America, something that is not often achieved by fantasy writers. But by the stage in the series fans were eager to get a hold of a copy. The earlier books Jordan seemed to churn out every year, but now it had been over 2 years since his last book. This is probably partly due to his failing health.
So this book carries on the story from where we left it in Winter's Heart. As usual with all the Jordan books there are various different storylines to pick up on.
We have Perrin who is still in hot persuit of the Shaido Aiel who have stolen his wife Faile. Perrin has to resort to some real desperate measures in order to try and win his wife back!
Meanwhile Matt is in a pickle again. He is still trying to escape the control of the Seanchan. He is still with Tuon the daughter of the nine moons who propecy previously said would one day be his wife! Controversial that there prophecy!
Rand is chilling out somewhat after his exertions in the previous book. He is still trying to negotiate with the Seanchan who are causing him all kinds of trouble.
Tobe honest this book bored me. The story is not overly exciting and just kind of plods along without any real substance. There is no great action between anyone, nothing really new to sink our teeth into. It kind of feels like Jordan is writing just for the sake of writing. The story seems to be going over the same ground and not getting anywhere new.
Having said that Jordan still manages to keep his readers interested, when you have read nine books already you feel like you have to continue with the story, and you hope it will get better in the near future.
So overall this is one of the poorest books in the series. But like I said you still really need to read it so you can carry on the series. There is no way you can just skip a book as the next one will not make to much sense without bits of the story from this one.
Don't get to excited about this one, just read it as fast as you can so you can get onto the next book!!
Summary: Not One Of The Better Books
