This is ann insight into the workings of out country and the hypocrisy hidden at the heart of Blair's Britain. For a writer who accuses others of populism Cohen is very willing to resort to it himself. I found the book to be well written and amusing. Some of the points made are even stimulating. Cohen is an incisive and witty writer and his prose is a pleasure to read. What's more, you will learn a lot about Cruel Brittania and many myths about the government are exploded However the obvious political bias of the book is disappointing. An interesting fact about the Conservative Conference for the year 2000 that has just finished as I write this: it had fewer corporate sponsors than the Labour Conference the week before. Anyone who is surprised by that should go on a daily diet of articles from this book, because it describes many more of the ways in which Tony Blair has brought Thatcherism back to life. New Labour is really Nouve Labour: as desperate for money and its trappings as it is for power.
