Believe it or not, I used to be a huge Katie Price fan - although I will admit that I have really gone off her these last few years. It was whilst I was a fan of hers, that I got introduced to her fictional books. Ever since then, despite having gone off Katie, I still look forward to reading her latest chick-lit books. Crystal is the second book by Katie Price. It was released in the United Kingdom in 2007. The book is currently available to buy from Amazon from as little as £1.40 which I think is great value for money.
I thought that the plot was an interesting, even if it was very predictable. I found that a lot of what happens to Crystal in the book has happened to Katie Price in real life. So while I enjoyed reading it, I do think that it lacks originality from Katie's part as she is just using her own life experience to 'create a story'. I did find the book to be quite dramatic and found that once I had started reading the book I was hooked and could not put it down. So I would say that despite the fact that it is predictable, it's also at the same time, a great page turner.
I found the main character Crystal incredibly easy to relate to. I found that as a character, whatever she was feeling, I as a reader was also feeling too. As Crystal is a 'popstar', I found it interesting seeing what the behind-the-scenes-of-being-a-celebrity is all about.
Katie didn't actually write this book - a ghost writer actually did and so it annoys me that Katie gets the credit for it. However, nonetheless, I did think that this book was very enjoyable and liked the fact that it was written in easy to read way which means that it is a great 'light reading' book for when you are relaxing on the beach or on the pool.
All in all, if you like chick-lit books then you will probably like this! In this weather it's the perfect book to curl up with and a hot chocolate.
Thanks for reading!
To quickly start off, Katie Price is big in the public eye she's in every magazine and tabloid paper and anyone who reads these pretty much has formed an opinion of her already whether they like her or not so chances are if you don't like her this book probably isn't for you.
I have to admit this book is a guilty pleasure of mine and i have read it a few times. It's a girly book to say the least ideally a nice holiday read. It has everything from falling in love with someone you shouldn't, falling out with friends, finding love with Mr Right then losing him AND trying to make it in the music business ( just your average problems ) Will Crystal get what she's worked so hard for or is it to late, how far will she go to get what she wants and is love going to happen. I mean like i said it is a girly book and ALOT you can guess but throw it in your suitcase this summer or read it on your way to work. It might just put a wee smile on your face.
(think i'll go read mine again) :)
We all know Katie Price to be a shrewd business woman who will try her hand at almost anything in an attempt to achieve world domination and eternal riches. Although I am ashamed to admit it, I have watched her show so I am aware that she isn't exactly an author, but emplyed a ghost writer and then OK'd the storyline. I wasn't expecting much, but I was after something trashy and light hearted after reading a series of quite complax and hard going crime dramas.
The book Crystal is available for around three pounds in paper back, from a wide range of book stores and supermarkets. The front shows a shillouette of a singer surrounded by adoring fans. The singer in question is also the name sake of the book, Crystal. She is part of a badn, called Lost Angels. The story starts with them auditioning for a talent show, suspiciously like the X factor! The band go on to win the talent show and becaome quite famous. Crystal makes the mistake of having an affair with one of her band mates boyfriends whoch all ends quite tragically and threatens to compromise her friendships, her career and any chances of furture love. The book tells the story of her ups and downs along the road to stardom and the love battles with her boyfriends and her friends.
At the start of the book I decided it was every so badly written. It was very factual and obvious, very direct sentances. This did however make it very easy to read. After a coupld of chapters of me thinking it was very trashy and I might give up soon I have to admit I did get into the swing of it and ended up powering through till the end!
The book was very light hearted, and showed fame and fortune and tropical locations. It is perfect for the youth of today, but I would no way recommend it to my Mum!!
Now I know how it turns out I would never pick it up and read it again, but I am really glad I read it once!
Crystal wants to sing and she has her own band, Tahilia and Belle complete the trio and they call themselves Lost Angels. Crystal sees an opportunity for the band to get a record deal by entering the Band Ambition competition. The girls all agree and soon they find they are in the select few bands and have made it as far as the judges houses.
Unfortunately for Crystal she falls in love with Belles boyfriend and they start and affair and Max says he will leave Belle as soon as the competition is over. Crystal believes Max and so the affair continues. As for as the contest goes the girls have been making good progress and they are quite confident of making the live shows but things go wrong when the press release stores that Belle is having a fling with their mentor Dallas. The news does not go down well for the band and they have to fight harder for their place now.
Fortunately the girls do win the contest and their loves change forever. Max has not kept his end of the deal and now Crystal is finding herself in a very bad place and as the success of the band grows problems between the girls start.
Will Crystal be able to hold herself together and just how far can Lost Angels make it? How many more skeletons are waiting to come out and what will the consequences for the group and their fame be?
I have only give a very brief plot outline for this book and all this happens within the first quarter, there is a lot more to read about but feel revealing any more will spoil it for those who are wanting to read this for themselves.
I have to confess that I bought this book well over 2 years ago and did start to read it then but I got so bored and uninterested with it I put it back down. It was only recently that I picked it back up and this was only because I had read all of my other books. I think the fact that I had read some of it before made me go into it this time with low expectations and not expecting much and because of this I did actually enjoy it more this time around. Once I had got past the first section of the book with the girls in the Band Ambition contest then the story really did improve.
The characters were mainly good and the lead one was Crystal. The story is about her and her dreams of being a singer and the band. She seemed very down to earth and never let the fame go to her head but I could not help shake off the fact that arts seemed too like Jordan and she seemed to be trying to make herself seem more human and this did put me off Crystal in places. She was easy to get to know and we did get to understand about her past and childhood and this made her easier to understand and like. The character of Belle and Tahilia were very different. Belle was from a rich background and was very up herself and Tahilia was the opposite with a love for her family and very grateful for all the success she had. I did get to like all the characters and even Belle as some of the diva requests she made were quite funny.
There are a lot of other character in the story and we get to know a good amount about them and they are featured throughout so I did not loose track of who was who and have they were involved in the story.
The story was good and easy to red once I got past the beginning and I felt it was good to show more of the after effects of the band winning the contest as if it would have just been about the contest then it would have been very boring indeed as it was very obvious that the band was going to win. There are a few good twists and turns in the story and I enjoyed them all and thought it made the whole basic storey more interesting and a better read.
The writing style was good and very easy to read and get all of the information from, I think this is due to the fact that Jordan/ Katie Price did not actually write this herself. It was obvious that she had a big hand in what the story was about and specific parts she wanted including, the sex talk and when Crystal was with a man had to have come from her and for me they were not needed and we could have been left imaging what happened instead of having it written in so much detail. Apart from this one thing which I found unnecessary I did overall enjoy the book.
The book was supposedly written by Jordan / Katie Price with the help of Rebecca Farnworth. It was published by Arrow Books. The retail price on the back cover is £6.99 but I only paid £4.99 for my copy some time back now. The book can now be bought a lot cheaper from the internet and I would say it is certainly not worth paying full price for.
I would like to give this book more than 3 stars but unfortunately I cant. The story was good and so were the characters but it was very basic and predictable in places and it seemed as if Jordan was trying to make herself into Crystal too many times for my liking. It is a light holiday read but nothing more. I certainly will not be rushing out to buy any more of her books.
I read this book while on holiday after winning it in a competition, it would not have been my usual choice of book. The book follows Crystal and tells the story of her and her friends starting at a pop idol like scene with their group and dream of being singers. The story follows as they make it big and go though the dramas of being pop stars and the up and downsides of that. You can tell that Katie Price had a hand in it from the story line but the book was written by a ghost writer. The book was a very simple read and ok for a holiday but I did not enjoy the style of writing and found the story line very predictable. Other people have enjoyed her book very much but they are not for me, I won't be going out of my way to read any other books from Katie
I was bought this by a friend, and after loving Katie's three other books, I thought I'd like it. I was, however, aware that she might be running out of books to write!
Crystal is another very beautiful and talented girl, who wants to be a singer. Despite having an amazing voice, she's never had a big break, and is beginning to give up on her dream when she sees a TV show thats searching for stars...
Crystal enters, and is instantly involved in an X factor style search for a girl band. She's soon teamed with Tahlia and Belle, to form 'Lost Angels' and compete with other groups to be the best. The story follows the twists and turns fame brings, including the press. While the dirt is dished on everyone, Crystal attracts some terrible press after falling for bad boy Max, and for a while it looks as if the public have turned against Crystal for good....
Despite hating the way Katie jumps from drama to drama with phrases like "Three Months Later...", I found the book to be quite good. There are clearly bits which have affected Katie personally, and some parts are very cynical, but its raunchy, glitzy and fun, and I really hope there is a sequel!
Crystal written by model turned part-time writer Katie Price aka Jordan the girl we all love to hate (not me though I just love her!) The book was first released in 2007 and got mixed reviews from critics but Im guessing most judged the book on the author and not by the story inside!
Facts have came out in the last few years that suggest Katie didnt actually write any of these boos herself which is disappointing, even though I think the book is definatley autobiographical and some of the things that happen in the book have happened in Katie's personal life!
What Is The Book About?:
Crystal has dreamed of becoming a singer all her life, and she's not short of talent she just cant seem to catch her big break. But when she and her band Lost Angels (made up of Crystal and her two friends Belle & Tahlia) audition for a talent contest and eventually win she is sky rocketed to fame and fortune! But theres a problem. Crystal has fallen for the wrong man, a man who could quickly destroy everything she has worked so hard to acheive! Will He Mess Everything Up For Crystal & The Other Lost Angels? Or Will Crystal Finally Become The Star She Was Destined To Be?
Well read the book to find out, but there are so many twists and turns in this brilliant story.
What I Thought Of The Book:
I thought it was excellent, defiantley worth a read as I was hooked from start to finish. The main character is extremley likeable and even though she does some things we should hate her for, you end up on her side straight away. If your into your chick-lit books then this is a must have for you as you will love it just as much as I did! Great book to curl into bed with after a long day and just get lost in.
You can get this book on amazon for just 1p! (not including P&P)
I got this book free with Company magazine a couple of weeks ago, and to be honest, had no intentions of reading it, I suppose I just didn't think anything with Katie Price's name on it could be any good. Of course, we all know that she didn't actually write this book, something confirmed if you look inside at the small print, which tells us someone called Rebecca actually wrote it, although as you read you will see strong influences of Katie/Jordan in there. As it was, I had bought the magazine to read on the train, but found I'd finished it with around an hour of my journey still left, so I started reading the book out of boredom and ended up being pleasantly surprised...
The story begins with Crystal and her band, Lost Angels auditioning for a TV talent competition, Band Ambition, which is basically the X Factor but with all bands. Lost Angels is made up of Crystal, whose father walked out when she was very young, and whose mother ran off to Spain leaving her to bring up her little brother when she was barely sixteen, Tahlia, a kind, shy girl who lives with mum Rosie and little sister Leticia, and who is also Crystal's best friend, and finally Belle. Belle is from a more affluent background than the other two girls, and is known for her diva-like behaviour already even though the band aren't even famous yet. She is dating an ex-racing driver named Max and although she constantly annoys the other two girls, they put up with her for the sake of the band.
As the long audition process gets under way, Crystal gets the distinct feeling that Belle's boyfriend Max is flirting with her. Although she is normally very loyal to her friends, Crystal can't help but be attracted to him and is flattered by the attention he gives her. The two of them embark on a secret affair, but Crystal soon realises that Max is just using her because he wants to be manager of the band. What will happen when Crystal wises up to his game and Max becomes violent? And what will happen to the band if their secret affair is revealed?
A lot of the time I find that it takes me quite a while to get into a book, and I often start reading it several times before I can actually begin to get into the story, but not this one, which I suppose is a good sign. Right from the beginning the pages are packed with drama and twists and turns, which kept me reading to the end.
The character of Crystal is very likeable - she comes across as an extremely down to earth character, and even though it would be easy to hate her for sleeping with another woman's boyfriend, we as the reader can see that she deeply regrets doing it, and it is hard not to be sympathetic towards her, given what happens afterwards.
As I mentioned, there are some strong influences of Katie Price in this novel, not so much in the story line, but some of the language and colloquialisms that are used, which can be a little brash and crude. I must admit I found myself cringing at these in places!
The pace of this book is quite fast, which is why I managed to finish it within a matter of days, compared to the last book I read which must have taken me around a month to complete. There is nothing particularly deep and meaningful about this book, however it does touch on some sensitive issues.
Overall though, I really quite liked this book, and am actually quite interested in reading her other novel now, Angel. If you like chick lit, and want something light but quick paced to read, then don't automatically rule this out because of the author - it's not as bad as you probably think it will be!
Available from Amazon for £4.99
Crystal by Katie Price is a must read book, it's gripping, it's a book that you feel like you want to go inside and change it around to how you think it would be if you had wrote it. This is by far the best boo I have read I find myself reading the best parts time and time again/It's funny I actually know were all my favourite parts areI would reccomend this book to anyone who doesn't mind a bit of strong romance with a hint of terror at times.
I knew that Katie Price (aka Jordan) had put her name to the previous book in the series (Angel) but as I hadn't read it before being picking this one up from my local library I wasn't sure what to expect from.
*** What Is It About?***
Initially, the book covers three girls - Crystal, Tahlia and Belle - who make up the band Fallen Angels. They audition for a reality television show called "Band Audition", which sounds a lot like The X Factor. As with that, the bands are assigned to one of three mentors and even go to the "judges' houses" as part of the bootcamp stage of the audition process. At the same time, Crystal finds herself falling for a very unsuitable guy (Max), who makes things difficult for her when she tries to end their liaison. Will he shatter Crystal's dreams of winning the show and hitting the big time?
*** The Characters***
As you can probably guess from the book's title, Crystal is the main character here and her bandmates are supporting characters, although they do have a large role in the plot for the most part. I liked Crystal as a character and was sympathetic to her as events unfolded, especially as Max becomes increasingly unpleasant.
Her bandmates are a mixed bag. Tahlia seems incredibly sweet, if not a bit wet as she is keen to please everyone. She gains weight later on in the book when a surprise secret becomes unveiled. Belle is an irritating character who is clearly used to getting her own way. Her tantrums became quite wearing from an early stage and I was glad when she become much more of an minor character in the plot.
Max is another character who is very unpleasant. At first, he seems charming enough but shows his true colours with his treatment of Crystal and to a lesser extent, Belle.
*** How Is It Written?***
Although the book is about Crystal, it isn't written in the first person. Instead, it is written in the third person. This doesn't mean that we don't get to hear Crystal's thoughts though as they are quite obvious throughout the book. I sometimes find it harder to get involved with characters when it isn't a first person account but this isn't the case here as Crystal is an engaging and likeable character.
*** Overall Thoughts***
I was a bit sceptical as to whether I would like this book but I'm glad that I picked it up as it was a good read. I have just returned it to the library today after finishing it last week, and it took me around four days to read (on and off). There are close to 500 pages in the book, so this wasn't bad going. If you like reading chick-lit books, this is a good option. I liked the reality television setting, probably because the show that Crystal's band take part in is very similar to The X Factor (which is one of my guilty pleasures!). All in all, I was pleasantly surprised at the book.
Katie Price/Jordan's novel Crystal was released in 2007 and is an absolute must read. The story is typically Katie Price, even though it is actually written by Ghost Writer. I read the book within a week because I simply couldn't put it down. When you start you just can't stop.
The book is about a girl band that enters a TV music competition in the hope of being the next big thing. But plans don't go according to plan when the girls face hidden secrets being revealed, betrayal and broken hearts.
I have read all of Katie Price's books (autobiography's and novels) and I have to truthfully I say that I preferred Katie Price's Angel and Angel Uncovered to Crystal, as I found the book more gripping.
I love her books because they are easy to read so you can pick them up and put them back down when it suits you, but trust me you won't want to. They are suitable to be read anywhere and everywhere so I recommend them to everyone. You don't have to like Katie Price to read the books, my sister read and loved them but she doesn't like Katie Price.
'Crystal' By Katie Price AKA Jordan, was brought out in 2007.
It is about a girl named Crystal, she is talented and dreams about becoming a singer. She is part of a girlband and they audition for a TV reality show. They get far in the competition but Crystal falls for her friends boyfriend and he isn't such a good bloke. I don't want to give it away but she has she fair share of trouble with this...
I brought this book expecting it to be a little cheesy but infact it isn't and i was surprised! I really got into the book and read it whenever i could.
Now i've finished the book it feels like there should be another book continuing the story, although it probably wouldn't be as good as you will see when you read it.
There are 22 chapters and 471 pages, but the chapters can be quite small.
The book cover is silver and pink with a singer on the front (as you can see in the pic)
On the back of the book the price is £6.99 but you can buy it on Amazon for £4.49 Or Play.com for £5.49 Both sites have free postage.
I can't wait to read her other books 'Angel' & 'Angel Uncoverd' Next!
'Crystal' is the second book by Glamour Model and Television Personality Katie Price...though in reality, it was actually written by a ghostwriter.
"This is a glittering and sexy story of passion and betrayal and one woman's search for true love. Crystal is beautiful, talented and ambitious. All her life she has dreamed of making it as a singer. After years of trying to break into the music industry her chance finally comes when her girl band enters a TV reality show contest. But Crystal has a secret. She's fallen for the wrong man and this one mistake could cost her everything - her friendships, her fame and her chance of ever finding love again..."
Whenever you say you are going to read a book by Jordon (or Katie Price as she is now known) you don't really give it much of a chance -- she's not exactly known for her intellect.
But actually 'Crystal' and her previous novel 'Angel' are good, they are quite addictive and if you enjoy reading celebrity magazines and stories then you will love this. There are even some sly crossovers with Katie's own Career that happen to Crystal in the book.
The book isn't necessarily for younger readers, probably directed at an older teenage/adult market due to the sexual content and swearing.
The book has everything - gossip, fun, romance and betrayal - total chick lit. There's goodies (Jake) and there's baddies (Belle and Max) in the book and although there isn't really that much depth to the characters you can identify and travel along Crystal's Journey with her. Though you can see where the book is headed from about half way through.
Needless to say, the book is addictive and suprising.
'Crystal' is the second acclaimed book to be released by the widely famous 'Katie Price' AKA Jordan.Published back in 2007 it went straight to the top of the book charts and sold many copies.
I had read Katie Prices first book 'Angel' and really got hooked on it, to be honest i couldn't put it down, so when she brought out a second book i rushed out to buy it. But to be fair the book really in many places bored me, and considering her first book was great, this one was a little bit of a let down.
Crystal, Belle and Tahlia are the girl band 'Lost Ange'l and they fight their way through to the final of Band Ambition - a TV reality show which is a shameless rip-off of The X Factor. Hard work and talent are not all that's needed to get to the final. Some of the other contestants are sure that Belle is sleeping with Dallas (think Simon Cowell) and the girls suspect they'll lose just so that he can be seen not to favour them.
As if that's not bad enough, Tahlia is outed as a single mother and it's feared that the public won't vote for the band because she's setting a bad example.
There's spin, counter-spin and a lot of PR but eventually the girls are triumphant - but that's only the beginning of the story. There's infidelity, rape, blackmail and lots more in this rumbustious story that lays bare the rather sordid worlds of pop music and modeling.
Crystal's a feisty young woman prepared to fight for what she wants. She does something stupid but the price she has to pay for it is high and we see her sink to the depths, before she can climb back again.
~What i thought~
Ok so the book isn't brilliant literature, but what really can you expect from 'Katie Price', in fact she doesn't write the books herself, so has a 'ghost-writer' to do it for her. She just basically tells the writer whats in her head, and how she wants each chapter to be laid out.
The strength is in the characters. I really found myself rooting for Crystal and wanting to know what happens to her. She makes enemies - fellow band member, Belle, in particular - but she has good friends too. All the characters are rounded and none seemed like caricatures. I thought that Belle might be turning into the pantomime villain when I felt like booing every time she appeared but even she had her softer, kinder side.
The story of 'girl wins, girl loses, will she win out in the end?' is one that's been done a thousand times before and you could probably guess the ending pretty accurately about halfway through the book, but somehow it didn't matter.
So i mentioned at the start that it was a bit of a let down compared to her first book, and at some points it did drag on. But i did enjoy the book, it's kind of like one of those ones where once you start reading you can't put down types.
Ideal for a rainy day, or to stick in your suitcase for your holidays.
I really admire Katie Price and bought this book after a friend recomended it to me, she, like me hardly ever reads, and told me its the one book she was able to get into and enjoy. so i thought id give it a shot, and ever since ive been finding books which ive been able to enjoy ... books in a simerlar category, people may think its not worth reading as its by Katie Price but its still a book ... and its still reading.. infact shes admitted she didnt even write her books! she just came up with the storyline and summerised how she wanted each chapter to go.
Its a kind of modern day fairytale, with plenty of twists so that it isnt too predictable, i warmed to the character and felt for her when she faced hard times in the lime light.
The basic plot is as follws.. Crystal and 2 otehr friends audition for an x factor type show called band ambition, they are a huge success and over night turn into the hottest girl band.
Unfortunatly the all suffer the hardships and slating of the press, and sadly for crystal she suffers the worst out of the lot. She falls for bad boy max's charm however his true colours soon begin to show and crystal sees her 15 mins of fame crumble.
