Newest Review: ... for him. There are no supernatural events of any kind. In my view this makes the book more scary, not less, because, unlike ... more

... the monsters that usually inhabit King's works, this could really happen. The book concerns Cujo, a lovely and friendly dog. He is happily chasing a rabbit when he falls in to a whole and is bitten by a bat. Rabies presents an ugly end to the animal. Trapped in a car with her son, an unlucky mother is watched early by the dog. Really, really scary book, even if you like dogs, you might start avoiding them after reading this book! Premium Review Cujo - Stephen King: The scariest book I've read in a while! (936 words)
by - written on 12/12/01 (Very useful, 1080 readings)
Rating:

The tale of mans' best friend gone bad! Cujo, a very strange name for a book and certainly an even stranger one for the dog of a rural mechanic. The name comes from an age old poem, I'm not sure which by now, but the dog, the key to the entire book, is named CUJO, a name which can make my spine tingle still. The plot. --------- We've ascertained that the book is about a dog, the story follows the fate of a woman (Donna Trenton) and her son (Tad) who have a confromtation with what turns out to be the most horrible of monsters imaginable; a rabid dog. The story begins with the Trentons, Vic, Donna and Tad (4 year old ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review An Exercise In REAL Terror (509 words)

Rating:

Firstly let me start off by saying that I am no genius when it comes to reviewing novels. I am not going to give you some splurge about the artistic style etc. but rather to give general overview of the book and perhaps who it will appeal to. This IS all I have to offer here, but hopefully you will find this of some use anyway. Cujo is one of Stephen King's earlier novels, written in the time when he could actually spin off a decent yarn without having to write over a thousand pages and disappear up his own rear end halfway in the process. These earlier novels may not have been as accomplished as far as literary style goes but here King at least demostrates ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cujo - Stephen King: Who wants a rabies shot? (344 words)
by - written on 30/11/00 (Very useful, 34 readings)
Rating:

Cujo is another masterpiece from Stephen King, and like his other books it's one that you can't put down. The only time I get to read these days is when I lock myself in the bath. Now, I always have my bath water hot to the point of boiling, so when I get out and it's stone cold because I've been reading this book non-stop, it gives you some sort of idea as to how good it is. The story revolves around Cujo, a 200lb St Bernard dog who loves his master and family and wouldn;t hurt a fly - that is until he gets bitten by a rabid bat and starts to go slightly squiffy. Imagine the nightmare of being stuck in a car that has broken ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review How does he do it... (256 words)
by - written on 29/09/00 (Very useful, 39 readings)
Rating:

So far, other books by King I've read are The Dead Zone and Firestarter. Don't get me wrong, these are fantastic novels (I've written DooYoo reviews on them as well) but they seem a bit far-fetched. But when I read Cujo, it was so real it could have been based on a true story. It is a simple plot really, a 200 pound St Bernard, normally wouldn't hurt a fly, gets infected with rabies and goes wild, holding a mother and her son hostage. When I was reading this, the one thing that struck me was how well paced it was - I must have read over 130 pages one evening! And for me, that's a _lot_. This story is true-to-life, in the way ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cujo - Stephen King: It's bark is worse than it's bite.... (345 words)
by - written on 22/01/02 (Very useful, 121 readings)
Rating:

Rather a disappointment here by King...don't get me wrong, though, i am a huge fan of King and love nearly every novel he has written...except this... Cujo...a 200 pound Saint Bernard dog...unfortunately bitten by a rabid bat one day and contracts the disease. Meanwhile, we are introduced to a young boy and his family. Tad is the young boy, his mother and father are Vic and Donna. Vic and Donna have big problems, you see, Donna is having an affair and Tad - a busy office-man - is going to have his biggest account at work pulled out. Things seem bad enough...until the car breaks and Donna takes it to the local hick mechanic, Joe Camber (bit of an approprite ...  Read the complete review
