CQB, or Close Quarter Battle, is probably one of the best (or at the very least top 5) military/SAS autobiography books in print. Mike Curtis was born in a small village in Wales, and as a child he grew up doing the things kids do, getting in trouble, mucking about etc. in the town where he lived there was only usually one career path, and that was to head to the mines after leaving school and earn your wage by nearly killing yourself at the coal face. The book tells Mike s story from his early childhood, through to his time with the Para s serving in the Falklands, and then his time in the Regiment (or S.A.S), carefully telling in, sometimes gory, detail of his ...

I've read it that often. It was so good that when I did my A level in English I compared it to "A Clockwork Orange" for my coursework. Mike Curtis goes out of his way to describe his life in his autobiography, "CQB - Close Quarter Battle". Mike Curtis joined the Parachute regiment as a young lad and after serving with them in the Falklands and seeing what he described as looking like "a band of gypsies", he decided he wanted to join the SAS. After getting through to the last stage of the six month selection ordeal to join the SAS, he failed the last hurdle and had to repeat it. He's the only man to have ever gone through the ...
