Being friends with an aspiring author can be an interesting experience. You get to act as their main cheerleader through the writing process, keep them going through the less interesting part of editing and can share the highs if they are good enough or lucky enough (or both!) to get published. Maybe if you're a close enough friend, you get a personalised signed copy. Of course, you're then obliged to read the book which, in this case, caused a bit of a problem. For my friend Victoria Blisse is a writer of erotic fiction, which isn't a genre I've ever had any real desire to read before now, nor one with any great appeal, regardless of who has written it. ...
