Newest Review: ... the National Underwater Marine Agency (NUMA), an American agency patrolling the oceans. The agency is well funded and allows Dirk to investigate anything interesting in the world, along the way he encounters beautiful women and finds himself in danger through his need to discover new things. He's assisited by an American/Italian Al Giordino, who to be honest is a total pastiche of all things ... more |

Clive Cussler is an American adventure writer whose main character is a rugged all-american hero Dirk Pitt. Cussler writes books which are nautically based and have a historical element through out. Cusslers novels are clever in some ways but ultimately for me rather leave you flat by the end, the books go through a now very established system. There is nearly always a flashback to events set some time in the disant past, these are usually associated with famous events in the past. These events tend to be water based and have featured such things as the Titanic, Atlantis, Pearl Harbour etc etc. The event usually leaves the characters dead and the ... Read the complete review

I've been reading Clive Cussler for years now. My favourite series has been the Dirk Pitt novels. They are no holds bared action adventure, using Cussler's knowledge and passion of all things marine to create some brilliantly captivating reads. Don't get me wrong, he is not the best writer. His depiction of women is often shocking, the dialogue is often wooden and unconvincing but none of that matters. He isn't trying to win a Pulitzer Prize, he just wants to share his ove ina nentertaining way. And he does it, and does it with some brilliant descriptive writing. The stories never slows down and I love them. They will entertain that young boy in you even when ... Read the complete review

Another outing for Dirk Pitt and his sidekick Al Giordino. As in all of Cussler books you start with a history lesson about a subject that will eventually be part of the main story. This time it is about the Vikings landing in North America and set a settlement up before exploring the area and the he jumps ahead in time to 1894 and has a chapter about a mystery submarine that attacks a United States warship. We then jump forward to the present and Valhalla Rising starts with the sinking of the unsinkable cruise ship The Emerald Dolphin and by sheer chance Dirk Pitt is in the location to be on hand to help save the majority of the passengers and one of ... Clive Cussler writes the kind of books that live out the dreams of teenage boys everywhere. The exciting blend of action, intrigue and usually a strong love interest appeal to the idealist in us all. Almost all of his books are centred around the character, 'Dirk Pit' (great name!). Dirk is your standard all action hero. He seems indestructible, though he does often get hurt. He always gets the girl and always saves the day. I find Clive Cussler's books more realistic than some other authors of this type. For one thing, his hero Dirk gets older, though not necessarily any wiser. His characters get injured physically and emotionally which adds to ... Read the complete review

My favourite Author of all time, all 16 years of it! Being a youth i find it hard to get into books, i need something thats straight to the point, got lots of action and lots of adventure! Clive gives me all this and more, i ahve often read one of his books till the early hous of the morning and its well worth it!! I own eight of his books and havent been disapointed with any of them. Somehow with great skill and creativity he mixes surrealism with realism. Yes a huge contradiction, however on first impression of his story lines you think 'Nah, never ever could happen'bu after a bit of thought u are thinking 'wow, what if that did happen?' ...
