Disadvantages: Sometimes the heroes can be almost oo heroic.

Clive Cussler writes the kind of books that live out the dreams of teenage boys everywhere. The exciting blend of action, intrigue and usually a strong love interest appeal to the idealist in us all. Almost all of his books are centred around the character, 'Dirk Pit' (great name!). Dirk is your standard all action hero. He seems indestructible, though he does often get hurt. He always gets the girl and always saves the day.

I find Clive Cussler's books more realistic than some other authors of this type. For one thing, his hero Dirk gets older, though not necessarily any wiser. His characters get injured physically and emotionally which adds to their believability. His characters feel so real that once you start reading you can't put the book down until the last page.

I started this by saying that Clive Cussler's books live out the dreams of young boys. As well as this they appeal to adults (both male and female) too. The heroes are not only tough in body but in mind as well. Realistic science is often used to solve problems and the characters ingenuity would put changing rooms' Handy Andy to shame!

If you enjoy reading about exciting adventures in exotic locations around the world with characters that have a realism that's hard to describe, then I strongly recommend the books of Clive Cussler to you.
