Quake - Richard Laymon

Premium Review A cracker of a good read (146 words)
by casarka - written on 20/05/01 (Useful, 38 readings)
Rating:

This book is surprisingly all about an earthquake that hits in L.A. Stanley is your average, fat, mother-pecked pervert who finds the quake gives him the opportunity to go on a perverted rampage. Don't expect bad things not to happen to nice people. Because they do. Laymon loves to shock and that's exactly what you get. One ...

Quake - Richard Laymon

Premium Review The dark side of humanity unleashed (308 words)
by Matt B - written on 18/01/01 (Very useful, 67 readings)
Rating:

I'm not much of a fan of Richard Laymon, per se. Of the works by him that I have read, he does seem to focus quite a lot on gore and sex, often at the expense of a riveting plot. This novel is no different (in the sense that gore and sexual situations are still quite prevalent in some scenes), but 'Quake' is still a good story. An American city suffers an earthquake. It's not going to be easy - quite apart from the earthquake and it's aftershocks, the disaster has brought out the worst in people, with many turning to complete savagery and murder ...

Out Are the Lights - Richard Laymon

Premium Review Good early novel with moments of brilliance (169 words)
by philsammie - written on 16/07/00 (Useful, 20 readings)
Rating:

Out Are the Lights is one of Laymon's early books, and depending on which edition you buy, it also comes with five short stories. The main novel is the story of a series of films which are shown at a cinema, and appear to show people actually being murdered, though of course no one can really believe that. For the most part the novel is ...
