Cutting yourself seems a million miles from the reality of most people, but the truth is that up to 1 in every 200 people are considered to do it, a figure which puts it right up there with anorexia and other eating disorders in terms of its prevalence. Perhaps it's that it seems such a frightening and strange behaviour to most people, or that it can be better hidden than an eating disorder in most cases, that means that people are still so ignorant of it and so rejecting of those who use this as a coping mechanism for unbearable psychological pain, but this is what it is - a coping mechanism for survival rather than an attention seeking device or a failed ...
