Roald Dahl - Danny the Champion of the World
Another great Roald Dahl book, great for the junior reader. I have reviewed a few of Roald Dahls books previously and found them to be great reads for older people aswell as kids. Published in 1975 by Puffin.
It was very easy to get stuck into the book and i always find this with Roald Dahl books, It is entertaining all the way through because there is always something going on which is exciting which really makes you want to read on like when Danny is driving one of the cars which was in his dad's filling station.
It is all about a boy called Danny whose mum died when he was 4 months old, he lives with his dad who owns a filling station and as Danny grew up he started helping his Dad around the petrol station. Danny's Dad is a nice man who always looks out for Danny; but he has a secret which is that he is a poacher who shoots pheasants.
One night Danny wakes up to find his dad is not in their caravan asleep, Danny gets worried but his dad comes back and then tells him his secret about poaching; near the end of the story Danny and his dad go and catch all of the pheasants with one of his fathers secret methods so that when everybody comes to the big shooting event at the woods expecting hundreds of pheasants there won't be any at all. Another twist is that the man who is hosting this 'event' is Danny's father enemy as such.
As usuall an easy book to read and i suggest it for the junior reader as well as the older, Roald Dahl is a brilliant author as i have mentioned before and this book is no exception.
Summary: Another book i recommend, if you don't want to read it yourself see if your kids like it!
