BOOK ONE - Dark Lover is the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There are 6 books in total with all books following the same vampire family. These are romantic vampire novels. Each book is based on one of The Brotherhood Brothers. Even though each includes them all they are directed at one in particular and the major events that effects them. I had never heard of these books or the author before when I was given the first book. My mum actually won the first two books on a halloween raffle at our local pub but shes not really into that sort of thing and I love vampire stories she gave them to me. After the first two books I was hooked and I ... Read the complete review

I have to get a couple of grumbles out of the way first as I don't want to end this review on a negative. At the beginning of the book there is a glossary of terms which I dutifully read only to discover that each term is explained in context throughout the first few chapters, in much the same detail as in the glossary. The first thing that really caught my attention about this book was that J R Ward has managed to create something unique in a genre where I thought I had read pretty much all there was to read. J R Ward presents vampires as something quite different from the traditional view of them, although they do have some of the key characteristics we associate with vampires such as being unable to go out in sunlight. The main characters in this book are Wrath, the king ... Read the complete review

-The Series- The black dagger brotherhood is a series of books about a group of vampire warriors who protect civilian vampires from lessers, a race of former human intent on destroying the human race. Wrath is a warrior who is supposed to be King but hasn't yet taken his place on the throne. Beth is the daughter of Darius, one of the brothers. Before Darius dies he asks Wrath to protect his human daughter and bring her safely through her transition, which is basically puberty for vampires that happens a lot later than human puberty. Wrath is reluctant, he doesn't like humans but when he meets Beth everything changes and there's no way he can leave her to ... Read the complete review
