I had been meaning to read this book for ages now, it was part of a big pile my sister leant me while she was decluttering in her house. To be honest it didn't really grab me which is why it went on the book shelf instead of straight into the 'to read' pile on my desk!
The blurb on the back of the book says it is about Ellen Franck and Amy Jacobs, but it's mostly about Ellen with a few references to Amy! Ellen Franck has a high powered career working for designer Karen Lipps, she's 35, and is crazy over her niece who she calls "Pickle" and she desperately wants a pickle of her own. She meets a friend from school Amy Jacobs, and is jealous when she sees Amy has a baby of her own. Until she finds out Amy is also just pretending to have one. They have avoided settling down to get ahead in their jobs, as Amy is a real estate lawyer. Eventually they set a plan to make a decision how they are going to have a baby and sort out the issues stopping them from doing that!
There really wasn't much going on in this book at all, and at times it just bored me. Other chick lit books I have read have plenty going on and various events overlapping etc however the 6/7 line blurb actually sums up everything that happens!
I read this book over about a week during my lunchbreaks at work. Usually I end up getting really into a book and I won't be able to put it down, but didn't get that with this one!
"Very funny and deeply moving" - Sunday Mirror
Not sure I agree with that...!
Summary: It's ok.

- 12/11/08 More detail about the characters, why it didn't really get going for you and why it was boring, and how well it was written would be nice to have seen. |
