A fine plot with so many different angles. I couldn't fault it.

If I could give 6 stars I would None some of the stories are better than others but the worse is only very good

Good idea for a murder story, Plenty of red herrings Disappointing end

Funny, deadpan writing that portrays a world of darkness and intrigue Not everybody may like Kurkov's style

Snapshot of the British mood in 1940/41. Entertaining. Reasonably Paced. Slightly dated

Fast moving some dated passages
