Knock Down - Dick Francis
by snowflake5 - written on 21/04/06 (Very useful, 220 readings)
Rating:
I had been reluctant to try Dick Francis books, being an urban woman who doesn t like horses... However I was assured they didn t fit the stereotypes and were a cracking good read, so I gave it a go and was not disappointed. In fact I ve become hooked, a bit of a Dick Francis fan. The Author Dick Francis was a champion National Hunt Jockey, riding many winners for the Queen Mother. He retired in 1957 due to a riding accident, at the top of his career. He became a racing correspondent, wrote his autobiography, got bitten by the writing bug and decided to write thrillers. Incredibly (or perhaps not - successful people tend to be good at everything they do), he turned ...

Reflex - Dick Francis
by caro - written on 16/07/00 (Very useful, 152 readings)
Rating:
comes as a real surprise. The various threads are resolved without it all being too neat and contrived. Reflex is not great literature or deep philosophical examination. This is not a criticism: the book has no such pretensions. However, the more serious themes are presented and given due weight, adding substance to a fast-moving crime novel. Altogether, worth a read, especially for Dick Francis fans. ...

High Stakes - Dick Francis
A read that won't be a gamble! (134 words)by - written on 24/06/00
Rating:
As always, Francis writes about horses. Horses are the thread that hold his books together, but none of his books are the same. He always manages to put a different spin on things and he's never boring! I mean, the man's written about so many different professions: jockeys, toy makers (High Stakes), teachers, negotiators for ...
