Advantages: Fulfilling read, filled with humour.
Disadvantages: Zilch.
To be quite honest, I did not receive 'Dear Fatty' as a present but rather bought it as a gift for my mum for Christmas.
As it sat on the pile of books she is 'going to get round to' for a month or more, I decided to borrow it and save it from collecting dust.
I have always loved Dawn French, I have memories of watching her sketches as a child..not really understanding all the jokes but still laughing at her comical facial expressions.
This book is everything you expect from French, charming, witty and just filled with laughs.
It is written in the form of letters to family and friends which gives it a more personal touch and insight to the real Dawn French. You start to think of her as a person rather than just part of a comedy duo.
She talks of her life in great detail, about the different moments that have shaped her as a person. How she handled her large frame, her family moving home frequently, her first love, Lenny (who she refers to as Len), meeting Jennifer Saunders and the different sketches we know and love her for.
While at first I felt a little guilty for nabbing this book off my mum's book pile, the joy of reading Dear Fatty was worth it and it has found it way back to that pile unoticed.
Summary: An insight into Dawn French's fantastically-funny-life.
