blacker and more prevalent and there is an underlying sense that this is a series every bit as cleverly concieved as any Police procedural and just as well thought out. Jim Butcher has achieved a real masterstroke in his creation of Harry Dresden in a series that crosses The Rockford Files with Kolchak, The Night Stalker! This is one of the best paranormal series around at the moment and how this hasn t gained a wider following by now is way beyond me- these books should be selling by the bucketload! In this third outing for the unlucky Dresden, we get to glimpse a bit more of his back-story and we are introduced to his friend, Michael, who purports to be a modern-day ...

Rating:

Small Favor is the 10th and latest book in The Dresden Files series by American author Jim Butcher. The Dresden Files tells us the story of Harry Dresden, Chicago s first and only Wizard Private Investigator. Small Favor sees Harry in debt to Mab (Queen of the Winter Court of the Sidhe), thus owning her a small favor or two and he can t really refuse. It traps Harry between a nightmarish foe and a deadly ally, which tests this loyalties and skills to their limits. This series of books keeps getting better and better. It s written in the first person from Harry s point of view, with a bit of humour injected. There s many twists and turns and it s one you won t want to ...

White Night - Jim Butcher

Crowned Review Good night! (879 words)
by IainWear - written on 04/05/08 (Very useful, 95 readings)
Rating:

narration borrows much if its from that of Chandler s Philip Marlowe, even down to referring to himself as a shamus. In other parts, it appears that Jim Butcher writes with an eye on the medium of television. The action quotient is constantly high and there are plenty of explosions and flying colours and there are even parts where you think you could slip in a commercial break. But there is also a little comic relief in terms of Bob, the talking skull, which I found to be a little distracting at first, featuring alongside the hero pet dog and the willing, if untried, apprentice. It s a shame that Butcher feels the need to conform to the clichés, as what he has ...

Products similar to Death Masks - Jim Butcher

great characterisation, clever and witty satirical novel, light relief from the real war not as good as some other Pratchett books

Nice ideas... ...that could have been much better realized.

Gritty Detective drama with vampires and moody spirits thrown in Jim Butcher is very selective what he reveals about Dresden's shady and often chequered past

Sci-Fi & Fantasy - Lightner, Lee

Sci-Fi & Fantasy - Brooks, Terry

Very unusual and interesting Some rather explicit descriptions and situations...not for everyone
