Not so long ago I read a comment by someone who felt he could not benefit in any way from reading Nobel-Prize-winning Seamus Heaney's poetry because he had nothing in common with Heaney. Well, I beg to disagree: I'm not Irish and I didn't grow up on a farm, but I can be enriched by reading these wonderful poems. I've chosen to go into detail with two of my favourite poems from this anthology, the title poem 'Death of a Naturalist', and also 'Blackberry-Picking', in the hope of showing the kind of experience that can be had from reading such poetry.
