NOTE: I have only shown the older titles before Debt of Honour in the order published but some other titles have been written since that occur in the Storyline series.

BACKGROUND:

Short background / history on Ryan: He is an ex History Teacher who is visiting London and intervenes on an IRA attack on the Prince of Wales. The IRA take revenge on him and his wife and kid are attacked. He joins the CIA as an analyst in order to track down the terrorists (Told in Patriot Games).

The books then follow the rise of Jack Ryan in the CIA up to Deputy Director of the CIA before he retires and considers to go back into teaching.

THIS BOOK DETAILS:

This book brings Jack Ryan out of retirement to take the position of National Security Advisor to President Durling. Jack accepts the position under the agreement that it will be his last role in government.

This book is about a group of Japanese business men, led by Raizo Yamata who plan an attack on the American Financial sector.

The aim by the Japenese is to extend their influence and the plan to attack the financial sector in the US, the shrinking military in the Pacific and threaton the US with a hidden stockpile of nuclear weapons which have been smuggled into the US.

The story follows the attack by the Japenese, the resulting problems within the US and their response to solve the issue. It is a compelling read with a lot of details on economic issues and has an excellant end to the book.

The plan is quite believable in my opinion and a lot of detail is gone into the book. It can be slightly confusing for people who do not understand Economics as Tom Clancy does go into detail on Economics and effect there of.

VERDICT:

I throughly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an exciting, interesting read. Anyone who has enjoyed other Clancy novels, and particularly the Jack Ryan series will love this book.
The ending is excellent and left me waiting for the next one of the series to be written.

One of the potential drawbacks with the Jack Ryan series is that it is very helpful to have read the books in order and know some background. I would recommend that if you are new to Tom Clancy then start at the beginning. This way you will enjoy the books much much more.

All in all this is an excellent book with a lot of good factual knowledge that sometimes goes into some depth (this could annoy some, thus worth mentioning here).

Fully recommend this book to everyone.
