Fantasy and humour combine to make this an extremely enjoyable read. Switch back and forth between the journal of Rupert the mage and the diary of Maree Mallory, as they deal with one crisis after another, not realising how their fates are intertwined. Rupert tries to find a replacement for his dead (and now haunting the car) mentor, as well as dealing with the collapse of an otherwordly empire, not to mention coping with the strangness of a fantasy/sci - fi conventon at which the infuriating Maree is also attending. Maree meanwhile has to deal living with her horror writer uncle, her bitch of an aunt, and cousin Nick; being broke, strange ...
