Amateur telescopes are available at lower prices and higher quality that ever before. Anyone lucky enough to look through such a telescope on a dark night is in for a treat. The night sky is filled with many amazing sights to delight the observer. Vast star clouds glowing like celestial candy floss, globular clusters hosting up to a million stars shine in a tight ball of light, planetary nebulae which are sheathes of hot gas surrounding a dying star carve out strange shapes in the blackness, and distant galaxies are seen after light which has been travelling across the intergalactic gulf for millions of years impacts on the viewer's retina.
