Defeat Into Victory is Field Marshal William Slim's account of the war in WW2 Burma. Slim commanded the Fourteenth Army in the campaign and is regarded by many to be the greatest British general of WW2. In contrast to many WW2 memoirs, Slim's account was modest and refrained from criticisms of other personalities. The book is also very well written. At the start of the book Slim is a Major-General commanding a division in the Iraq desert.
