Advantages: Holland at his best, Beautifully written, Will keep you awake at night
Disadvantages: Sorry can't think of any
Holland triumphs again with what he does best... dark, gothic and disturbing horror combined with documented historical fact. The story begins in the winter of 1659. Strange murders are taking place around Salisbury Plain (home to Stonehenge). A Roundhead officer, Captian Foxe discovers that these murders may point to a dark and evil ritual of unimanginable horror. Captain Foxe's young son Robert, becomes unwittingly caught up in these events and when a great evil is unleashed he loses his home, the people he loves and nearly his sanity. Taken in by the beautiful and immortal Milady a blood-drinker, Robert is taken to London and raised like a lord all the while never forgetting his oath of revenge and redemption. The story is beautifully written and often very disturbing. There are definitely a few suprises in store for the reader. Also because Holland uses documented fact and adds his own twist you will learn how the plague came to be and what caused the great fire of London. This is a 48oz T-bone steak of a book and once a few pages in, it became glued to my hands. Existing fans of Holland will definitely not be disappionted but if you have never read anything by him then BUY IT TODAY!!!
