Advantages: Short, punchy sections.

Disadvantages: Lacks depth, unbelievable storyline.

This book breaks down beautifully into short dated sections making it a great novel for those who want to read but can't really find the time to get engrossed for more than a few pages at a time.

I'm not really a fan of the crime genre but having received this for Christmas from I daughter I owed it her to give the book a shot. The murders are gruesome, certainly not something to read if you're of a sensitive disposition. Victims die by a variety of medieval torture means, including a particularly nasty spiked chair and live burning death. I didn't find the crimes believable at all and the plot was very thin throughout. I was eager to follow the twist concerning the killers childhood but found myself disappointed at the end as the trigger to his maccabre nature is never fully explained, other than a sense that some people are just born evil.

Vito, the investigating officer, is a likeable character, he is described as very attractive, but with a name like 'Vito' I'd got a fat man in my head before the description and just couldn't shake the image.

This is an OK book. There's nothing challenging here, no pages of description, very little scene setting and mainly dialogue. If you want something you'll reread again then this is not it, but if you want a book that you can dip in and out of or spend a couple of hours catching up on and you like a gruesome killing, then this is for you.

Summary: Suitable for loo reading
