As he is a trained military man he does not panic and quietly assess the situation, before long he realises that the woman is not panicking either and it turns out that she is a trained and wholly competent FBI agent - both believe that they should be protecting one another as neither of them knows the others true identity. ...more

Crowned Review Die Trying - Lee Child: Irresistible Hero (828 words)
by - written on 11/08/08 (Very useful, 87 readings)
Rating:

Die Trying is the second novel in Lee Child's series of books written around the fictional character of Jack Reacher. After being honourably mustered out of the US military Jack Reacher has become somewhat a loner. He enjoys being as untraceable as any American can be and so does his very best to leave no paper trail. He has no driver's licence, no picture ID and no dependants. For all intents and purposes Reacher prefers to stay in the shadows but the skills he learnt during his service as a Military Policeman never have and never will leave him and it is these that turn him into such an epic hero. Strolling nowhere in particular down a Chicago ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A story of a lucky hero (1238 words)

Every time I pick up a book, there seems to be a recommendation line in it from Lee Child. I have never read one of his books but I always had the intention to as apparently he is one of the most prolific authors in the world, and his novels are regularly on the top of best seller lists. I came across a whole row of his books available for swap whilst on holiday and after initially picking up one of his novels in German (I didn't realise until I was settled back on my sun bed!)I came across Die Trying and settled in for what I hoped was going to be a long awaited enjoyable read. Jack Reacher is the principal character in this thriller and he has ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Die Trying - Lee Child: Jack Reacher savs the world once again! (730 words)
by - written on 28/10/01 (Very useful, 36 readings)
Rating:

Not quite my favourite thriller but pretty damn near the top of the list, “Die Trying” starts off with Reacher, an ex-army MP Major, continuing his wander around the US getting to know his own country after spending nearly all his life staying in Army Bases. Reacher is a tough looking man, taller than average and full of battle scars – not the type you would want to meet in a dark alley after dark. He knows how to defend himself and I would say is a tad better than average at doing so! He is visiting Chicago and whilst walking round a corner he spots a woman in need of a helping hand – she is struggling out of the drycleaners with a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Childs Play (562 words)
by - written on 25/06/01 (Very useful, 74 readings)
Rating:

This is the second book in the Jack Reacher series. I picked it up after reading the Visitor and I think it is probably a better read which is no mean feat. Again the book can be read with no prior knowledge of Jack Reacher. I felt that I gained a little by having read another book but there is no way that you have to read these books sequentially. This time Reacher stumbles on a kidnapping and ends up getting taken as an additional hostage. He soon realises that his fellow hostage may be more valuable than he first thought and he begins to uncover the bigger picture. In his favour is the fact that his captors think he is an average club bouncer/doorman ...  Read the complete review
