Advantages: Can't stop reading it

Disadvantages: Possibly contrived bits

The good run of books from Lee Child continues. This is the second Jack Reacher novel and continues the theme from the last book, i.e. Jack is minding his own business and ends up in deep mire, because he is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Casically, it tells the story of how a bump into a woman on a city street turns into a kidnap nightmare for Jack, and the woman he bumps into.

She turns out to be an FBI agent, on crutches, but expects to take charge, thinking Jack is a defenseless civilian, but doesn't know who Jack is, or what he can do.

Eventually, after a road trip in the back of a vehicle, they meet their captors, who turn out to be .....

Ahhh, not going to spoil it.

Lets just say that the book is very hard to put down. A bit of a cliche, but the truth indeed.
Again, many parts of the book feel slightly contrived to ensure the maximum impact, but then if books were based on a life where nothing different or interesting happened, what would be the point of reading them.

Make sure that you read The Killing Floor first, as the character of Jack matures and develops through this book, and onto the next one in my opinion.

And I still think Lee Child is the best British author for writing about things happening in America. You can even forget that he is not American, he captures what America is like (or seems to be like)
