My son loves dinosaurs and I mostly think this is like most boys but also is down to George, Peppa pig's brother, owning a toy dinosaur. He was given the book Dinosaur Roar the paperback version. Dinosaur roar is written by Paul and Henrietta Stickland in 2005. Paul is also the illustrator. The book is very simple to read and follow. It is designed to teach opposites as it gives two extreme versions of dinosaurs fat and tiny. The pictures do replicate different dinosaur and are obvious what they are trying to describe I do think that once my son understands the concepts that I will be able to point to ask him to point to them but for now I point as I ... ***Background*** This older book in our nursery’s collection is a board book so withstands a lot of wear and tear from youngsters quite well. It is one of a whole series of books about dinosaurs from Henrietta Stickland and helps young children learn all about opposites. ***The Story*** The book starts by showing a big ferocious dinosaur and a tiny one who looks terrified. The words underneath that accompany the pictures tell us, “Dinosaur roar, dinosaur squeak,” Turn the page and there is a little dinosaur scaring a big one with the words, “dinosaur fierce, dinosaur meek.” As we go through the ... My little boy has always been a BIG dinosaur fan, so when this book came as a free gift in the bookstart pack when he was about 2 we were both very pleased! The book is very simple with just 2 words on each page but the choice of words is very effective for a number of reasons... -The text is rhyming. (I dont know about you but I love rhyming books and my little one seems to enjoy them too!) and it's a nice introduction to this concept. -They all describe the dinosaurs using direct opposites, which is both very educational and fun! -They have fantastic illustrations to back them up- really colourful, exagerated and ... We got this book free as part of a Bookstart pack. It's a fantastic book. On each page, you will find a pair of dinosaurs with opposite qualities, so there might be sweet and grumpy, weak and strong, fast and slow and so on. The dinosaurs are illustrated accordingly - the strong dinosaur is lifting a boulder for example. It's great for talking about opposites and descriptive words. What's more, the text rhymes throughout the book which I think is great as it holds a child's attention, and helps them to remember the story. The text is quite large as well, so it's good for children learning to read. What I love about this book, is that although the illustrations ... Read the complete review

This came as part of our Bookstart pack when my son was 18months old and has been a firm favourite ever since. The text is based around dinosaurs with opposite features/qualities and the illustrations then emphasise these. There are only a couple of words on each page so it a book that very young children can attend to from start to finish. They can also quickly learn to join in with the repetetive text. I found it encouraged eye contact as I could pause or change speed of delivery, tone etc and my son would eagerly look to me to see what was going to happen next or offer his own contribution. I have more recently found him using the adjectives from the text when ... Read the complete review
