Advantages: An ok read...
Disadvantages: Dissappointing!!
I have always loved Belinda Jones books, and I have read near enough all of her books: I Love Capri, On The road to Mr Right, The Paradise Room, Out of the Blue, The Love Acadamy, Cafe Tropicana and now Divas Las Vega. The only book of hers I have left to read is The California Club (and the new book which she has coming out soon).
I'm not quite sure where Divas Las Vegas comes in the line of her books, it could very possibly be one of, if not, her first book.
I loved all of Jones' previous books, they have all been amazing, and have really captured my imagination, this book was very different and I must say, it isn't the best of her work.
Plot:
Izzy and Jamie have been best friends since they were little girls, for 20 years. And now at 27 they are still as close as ever. They have so much in common including their bad luck with men.
Jamie is the narrator of the story (written in the first person), and she tells their story. When Nadine, Jamie's stuck up younger sister tells Jamie and her family she is getting married, Jamie is devastated. Why should her snotty little sister get married before her! And when she is introdced to her fiance...she is even more devastated as he is the love of Jamies life. Her first love, CJ who she met 10 years ago at theatre camp but who disappeared afterwards leaving Jamie pining for the rest of her days. But here he is now stood in her living room, and she cannot believe it.
She and Izzy have always had a dream, a double wedding in Vegas.
So when Nadine starts her wedding it seems to be the perfect time to get away from it all and swan off to Vegas to find a husband!!!
The girls very quickly get into life in Vegas and meet some new friends and potential love interests. There are some hillarious characters in the story and as with all Jones' books everything is described to the finest detail.
Without giving away the storyline, I can't really say much else about the plot, apart from that Izzy and Jamie have an amazing time in Vegas, but that soon things start getting complicated and messed up, and somewhere along the line, somebody is going to be left in tears.
Opinion:
As I said earlier, I usually love Belinda Jones books, but this one doesn't stand out to me as so amazing. Maybe it is because instead of the lush cream coloured sands and bluest of blue seas, ther are twinkling lights of Las Vegas and Elvis impersonators. Vegas, in fact all of America is not somewhere I have ever wanted to visit, and it is defintely not on my travling wish list. Maybe this is why I didn't enmjoy the book as much.
Whilst the storyline is still great and interesting, and has all the twists and turns of a Jones' book, the characters are wonderful and then book is quite gripping, it is definitely not up there with the best of them. I read this book thinking it would be an amazing book as with all of her others, but I was mistaken, and I didn't enjoy it even half as much as I have the rest. As I say it's veryu possibly personal preferance which makes me not enjoy the book as much, bright lights and Vegas gambling doesn't appeal to me at all which may be what makes me not enjoy it.
I don't even have much left to say on the book, which is not like me with Belinda Jones books!!!! I am not saying this is a bad book (It is been given 4 stars afterall!), I just don't think it's as good as her other work. Still give the book ago if you like Chick Lit, but don't judge Belinda Jones by this work as the rest is 100% better! Still a strong storyline, but not as interesting as pther books I have read, you tend to be more than halfway through before something of interest starts to happen!
All in all 8/10!
Summary: Not as gfood as her other work.
