The whole idea of friendship through the years and even teaming it with the added interest of life in the 50's and 60's is not at all new, however I found that the way in which these ideas were explored in this novel did make it stand out from a lot of other novels and I can understand why it was an American Bestseller. The book begins with Siddalee Walker the elder daughter of Vivi, one of the Ya-Ya sisters, having given an interview after having success with one of ...more

Premium Review Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood - Rebecca Wells: Ya-ya good read! (701 words)

This isn't the kind of book that I usually read, I am a big fan of books like Helen Fieldings Bridget Jones Diary, Jane Green's books like Bookends, Jemima J and Straight-talking, you know the new age womens suffering much angst over finding love and all the hilarities that occur in the process. However, I bought the "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" to take with me on holiday along with a huge pile of others as it claims to be the "Runaway Number One bestseller" and well that is always a claim I'm interested in checking out. So, was it true? The whole plot revolves around the legendary "Ya-Ya Sisterhood" which ...  Read the complete review

I gave in and bought this as I found it cheap in a publishers outlet. I am not one to usually buy very hyped very american books but this book was a real find. The story is told in the voice of Siddalee Walker - the first born of Vivi and Shep Walker. Vivi is a Ya-Ya which means she is one of a close group of 4 wild friends. Siddalee had a very interesting upbring because of the Ya-Yas and as an adult wants to find out more about the Ya-Yas life. Her mother Vivi gives her a scrapbook full of interesting things which ...  Read the complete review
