Its 1991 and my family are all crammed into our ageing Volvo as we travel across picturesque France. Like most of our family holidays the budget was pretty much spent getting out there in the first place and this meant food would be ala super Marché. Therefore, as usual we stopped off at a picnic spot to enjoy yet another portion of slightly tough French loaf and dubious pate. How unsophisticated did we feel as we tucked in alongside a French family with what looked like a full spread? And then it happened.
